Dennis Miller, manufacturer and distributor of fine contemporary furniture, lighting and carpets, has contracted Emma C. Gardner, chief designer for emma gardner design, llc, to create three new rugs based on flooring designs by Morris Lapidus, the acclaimed architect and designer noted for creating glamorous post-war hotels in Miami Beach and defining the 1950s resort hotel style. The new line of rugs will be offered through Dennis Miller Associates in New York.

Dennis Miller Assoc. launched its first five furniture pieces of the Morris Lapidus Collection last year. According to Miller, the initial collection of furniture greatly exceeded his expectations. “The rug designs will add an intriguing new dimension to the floor covering market that I am confident will be equally successful,” he said.

Gardner has created three rug designs in three colorways each, and interpreted rugs from original sourced materials and vintage photos of Lapidus’ landmark properties.

“Emma Gardner was the perfect creative person with whom to work on this exciting project,” said Miller. “She is so sensitive to the nuances of Lapidus’ design vision but is also able to bring her utterly fresh and unique point of view to the project.”

The three designs, Planks & Rivets, Aruba, and Sunburst, will be offered in both wool and a wool/silk blend and will be available in three color ways each and in standard and custom sizes.

“It was a fascinating process to use the Lapidus designs as an inspiration for the new rugs and to feel as though I was collaborating with Lapidus in a sense.”
