EMMA GARDNER DESIGN
TO UNVEIL NEW WORK AT
INTERNATIONAL CONTEMPORARY FURNITURE FAIR
(ICFF) IN MAY
The New Color Slick Rug Uses Bold Vivid Colors and Silk to
Create
a Luxurious Saturated Effect
Litchfield, Conn.
(May 2007) – emma gardner design, llc, makers of contemporary heirloom quality rugs, will add a new design
to its collection for this season. The
company will unveil the new hand-knotted silk and wool Color Slick, which will be exhibited for the first time at the 2007
International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF) at the Jacob
K. Javits Convention
Center in New York
City on May 19 – 27, 2007. The rug will be available at showrooms and
through custom order this summer.
“The
inspiration for Color Slick was bold and vibrant color” said Emma C. Gardner, chief designer and principal of emma gardner design, llc.
“I wanted to do something with the intensely
saturated and beautiful colors of peacock feathers, and also
wanted to capture the feeling of an oil slick - the kind you see when a little
gas spills at a gas station and in the light it has a beautiful iridescent
quality.”
Color Slick is a hand-knotted Chinese silk and
Tibetan wool rug that incorporates a repeat peek-through pattern of “liquid
spills”. The wool features a 5 mm pile
and the silk a 5.5 mm pile, and the rug is 100 knots per square inch. Offered in one standard color way, Peacock,
Color Slick is also available in custom colors and sizes. The retail price is $150 per square foot.

“Color Slick represents some
new directions for me as a designer,” Gardner
said. “I continue to think more and more
about materials and ways to explore them.
With this rug I wanted there to be a flow between the deep blue/greens
and green/blues that simulated a kind of ‘liquid spill of color’ and silk is
the best medium for that. I discovered
with earlier rugs that using different colors of silk next to each other,
especially ones fairly close in range, produces a kind of watercolor
effect. This rug also has large scale
but very organic shapes, less graphic or literal than some other designs I've
done.”
