Global Brand Commissions Silk Rug and Fabric to Market Fast Growing Spirit

Litchfield, CT (August 24, 2004) – Emma Gardner Design, LLC, the design and development company that specializes in fine contemporary rugs, today announced a relationship with Bombay Sapphire Gin to create a custom design for the company’s “Bombay Sapphire Inspired” campaign. The deal was orchestrated by Bombay’s U.S. agency Sugartown Creative.

Emma Gardner’s original “Peacock” design features elegant treatments of Anglo-Indian brand elements from Bombay Sapphire’s iconic label including Queen Victoria’s sapphire medallion and other inspired forms such as paisleys, peacocks and botanicals.

Bombay Sapphire commissioned a full size rug and fabric to be used in a mass market print campaign for Western Europe launching in publications such as Elle, Tatler, Vogue, Vanity Fair, Esquire, Condé Nast Traveller and InStyle.

“Emma has created something special for us. A design that will help us build awareness for the brand with our target audience while at the same time treating them with respect and reflecting our continued support for the global design community,” said Marshall Dawson, Bombay Sapphire’s Global Marketing Director.

The Peacock rug is 9’ x 12’, 100 knots per inch, hand-knotted Chinese silk and Tibetan wool, hand-sheared to a 5mm pile and was made in Nepal. The fabric is simple cotton flannel and was used to create pillows and textured components for the campaign.

“In asking Emma to produce an original design and rug for us, we wanted to create something with style and depth, which would engage the consumer and make them feel challenged and moved in some way. We could not be happier with what Emma has done,” said Fritz Westenberger, Creative Director of Sugartown Creative.

In keeping with their standard practice, the EGD rugs created for Bombay Sapphire are RUGMARK certified. Through the company's strong relationship with the RUGMARK Foundation, a global non-profit organization promoting progressive labor, EGD is able to guarantee that no child labor is used at its mills and that a portion of each rug it imports is donated to RUGMARK to support their efforts to educate mill workers.
