emma gardner design, llc is a design and development company that produces fine contemporary interior products for use in residential, hospitality and contract spaces. Based in Litchfield, Connecticut, the company?s products are available at showrooms throughout the United States. emma gardner design, llc is a proud member of the RUGMARK Foundation, a global non-profit organization working to end child labor. Honors in 2007 included an Interior Design Best of Year Merit Award for Jewels in Sand and IIDEX/Neocon Innovation Awards for Bamboo Blossoms and Flowers on Water.
ABOUT EMMA GARDNER
Award-winning designer Emma Gardner, chief designer and principal at emma gardner design, has been creating striking and vibrant rugs for consumers, interior designers and architects since 2002 from her Litchfield, Connecticut studio. After a successful career as an editor and illustrator, Emma Gardner applies her celebrated sense of color and composition to creating original rugs that are available through showrooms in 21 U.S. markets and Toronto.
Her designs have appeared in leading design and fashion magazines including Elle Décor, House Beautiful, Interior Design, Country Living, Traditional Home, Elle, O at Home, Glamour, Dwell, Western Interiors and In Style.
In 2006, Gardner received Interior Design magazine's Best of Year award for Joy, a colorful rug that features flowers, vines and butterflies and employs a layered, Chinese cut-out effect.
Gardner moved to Litchfield in 2002 from Brooklyn, New York, where she was the Editor-in-Chief of PHYS.COM, Condé Nast's online Health and Fitness magazine.
Prior to her tenure at Condé Nast, Emma Gardner served as Managing Editor of Better Health and Producer of the Food Channel for publicly traded iVillage.com. In 1996, she founded, designed and edited her own "e-zine" for young women, Smarty-Pants, featuring work by Ellen Lupton (former curator of the Cooper Hewitt National Design Museum in New York) and Cindi Leive (presently Editor-in-Chief of Glamour magazine), among others.
Gardner's handmade book, I View, was exhibited at Parson's Gimbell Library as part of a group show. In addition to her own books, she has created cover art and illustrations for numerous publishers, books and publications including Villard Books, Random House, Scholastic Inc., and The New York Times.
Her early education was at public schools, including New York?s Stuyvesant High School. She earned a B.A. from Wesleyan University and did graduate work at Columbia University in English Literature. Additionally, she studied textile design at F.I.T. and painting and drawing at Cooper Union in New York.
Emma Gardner was born in Kyoto, Japan, and grew up in Wilton and Westport, Connecticut, before moving to New York City at eleven. She currently lives and works in Litchfield with her husband, who is president of the company, her daughter and son.

Tibetan Mill - Hand-Knotted Rugs
emma gardner design, llc has partnered with the finest Nepalese
producer of Tibetan carpets, a mill that keeps alive the tradition
of a centuries old native craft. Hand carded, hand spun and pot
dyed, Tibetan or New Zealand wool or silk, is hand-knotted to produce
rugs with a unique luster and lifelong durability.
Our mill has the largest loom in Nepal 30' x 50' and is able to
make rugs of almost any size. Variations in pile height and knot
count and combinations of wool and silk are also available.
Certified by RUGMARK,
our partner never employs children, is recognized for their progressive
employment practices and has won numerous awards for excellence
from the Nepalese government. Our Indian Mill - Hand-Tufted
Rugs
Renown for their quality and craftsmanship, the mill emma gardner
design, llc works with upholds the standards and quality of century old
tradition and culture while incorporating progressive labor policies.
Specializing in hand-tufted rugs, our Indian mill uses 100% New
Zealand wool.
At the forefront of contemporary rug making, our mill is able to
skillfully match colors and render designs in unexpected and original
ways resulting in true works of art for the home. The

As a member of the RUGMARK
Foundation, a global non-profit working to end child labor, we are
able to guarantee that no child labor is used at our Indian or Nepalese
mills. A portion of the cost of each rug imported by our company
for sale in the United States is donated to RUGMARK to support their
efforts to educate former child laborers. |
